SAS Contract

The new SAS contract was accepted by national ballot, 40% turnout, 60% for, 40% against.

If people are going to swap onto the new job contract or are going to have their current contract reviewed and need the support of the BMA/BDA then they need to join the organisation in advance of problems because they will not get support retrospectively.  BDA membership gives reciprocal rights with the BMA who are involved with hospital based negotiating.

More information is available on the new SAS contract on the BMA website. http://www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/SASimplementation

Anyone eligible to be upgraded to Associate Specialist should do so as soon as possible.  The window to enter the grade closes in March 2009.

Individuals should get in touch with their local SAS committees or Human Resources to find out the local situation.  People will need to register an interest in the new contract even if eventually they do not wish to accept it within 3 months of April 1st to be eligible for back pay.
